Zimmer Knee update
Zimmer NexGen High-Flex knee replacements devices may fail prematurely. In 2010, a study, "The High Failure Rate of a High-Flex Total Knee Arthroplasty," conducted by a former Zimmer consultant, concluded that the Zimmer NexGen CR Flex implants had an unacceptably high failure rate of 9% requiring revision surgery to implant a new device and radiographic evidence of loosening in 36%. Artificial knee implants are expected to last 15 years or longer.
ZIMMER NEXGEN HIGH-FLEX KNEE STILL AVAILABLE TODAY
Zimmer continues to market its cement-less High-Flex device despite the study conclusions and has refused to initiate a recall or suspend sales. Unfortunately, new patients continue to receive this device and many experience painful side effects and some will require revision surgery.
At Sommers Schwartz we are investigating a growing number of Zimmer NexGen High-Flex knee failure cases. A number of cases have already been filed around the country alleging that the Zimmer NexGen High-Flex implants are unreasonably dangerous and not fit for its intended purpose.
