Like many metropolitan areas across the country, poverty is a fact of life for many underprivileged people in Detroit. Fortunately, Cass Community Social Services is there to help.

CCSS helps those in need by providing food and access to health care, housing, and jobs, a mission it began in 2002. According to its website, the agency:

  • Prepares and serves 1 million meals each year
  • Operates shelters, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing for 325 homeless men, women, and children
  • Conducts a weekly free medical clinic as well as a day program for 100 adults with developmental disabilities
  • Employs 70 adults at its Green Industries, which provides jobs geared to sustainability

Sommers Schwartz has been a longtime CCSS supporter – Dan Swanson is the former chair of the organization’s board of directors, and Rob Sickels currently sits on the board. The firm proudly sponsored CCSS’s 11th Annual Golf Outing on September 19th, an event to raise needed funds in support of its ongoing mission.
