Jason Thompson represents payors in winning Bextra-Celebrex class action settlement

A class action settlement has been approved for purchasers of Bextra and Celebrex totaling $89 million.  Health insurance companies, unions and other self-insured’s and consumers will all share in the settlement based on how much money they spent on the drugs.  Sommers Schwartz attorney, Jason J. Thompson, was among the plaintiff lawyers who represented the payors, including three payors from Michigan.  He recently commented on the case:

"It is important for payors to pursue abuses by pharmaceutical drug companies as part of their overall effort to contain healthcare costs.  Hundreds of millions of dollars are wasted each year paying for drugs that are overpriced, over-marketed, or overprescribed.  This settlement represents a good example of a drug company being held accountable for its greed, and the benefit to proactive healthcare payors who file suit to recover wasted healthcare dollars."
