At Sommers Schwartz, P.C., we are recognized for our leading litigation skills, which have been applied to cases of medical malpractice, personal injury, defective medical devices, dangerous drugs, class action lawsuits, and multidistrict litigation. Fully invested in matters of the law and our own litigious practice, we are committed to contributing our skills and knowledge outside of the courtroom as well.
Our very own Attorney Jason J. Thompson originated the idea of a seminar designed to emphasize an “innovate or die” business philosophy; not coincidentally, this is the same philosophy practiced by every member of the Sommers Schwartz legal team. Specifically, Jason and the rest of our firm wished to convey the message that lawyers are doing their clients a disservice by neglecting the opportunity to inform them of mass tort cases. From this idea was born the Great Lakes Mass Tort Seminar.
About the Great Lakes Mass Tort Seminar
The first annual Great Lakes Mass Torts Seminar was cohosted by Sommers Schwartz, P.C. in early June of 2013 at the Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan. More than 50 practicing lawyers from states throughout the Midwest, including Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan attended the event. Professionals who attended the seminar were offered the opportunity to learn more about mass tort cases, particularly as they apply to defective drugs and medical devices.
The seminar consisted of a full day of instruction on the ins and outs of mass tort practice. Along with coaching on how to begin a case of this nature, attendees were provided with a review of mass tort cases for diabetes drugs and defective hips. The seminar has already been recognized as the only program designed with the specific intention to teach plaintiff attorneys how to effectively capture more value from their existing client base.
Featuring preeminent mass tort litigators from states across the country, the seminar perfectly conveyed the true value in communicating with clients about mass tort cases while explaining how to network with other mass tort lawyers during the process. By following the advice provided at the seminar, lawyers can begin to capture more value from their current client base without needing to change the core values of their practice. Topics covered at the seminar included:
- Overview of successful mass tort cases
- Specific examples of how to get involved in mass torts
- Explanation of how courts and lawyers handle mass tort cases
- Insight into the special laws that drive mass tort cases
- Current key mass tort cases
- Description of the economics and logistics of the mass tort practice
- Details about litigating wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Opportunities in Mass Tort Cases
Our Michigan lawyers recognize the opportunities presented by mass tort litigation, and as such, we are invested in pursing cases of this nature.
