Medical Malpractice – Failure To Provide Appropriate Treatment Causes Wrongful Death – Madison v. Advanced Cardiovascular Associates
Sommers Schwartz attorney Andy Dragovic filed a medical malpractice lawsuit on behalf of a 59-year-old woman who died as a result of failure to administer appropriate anticoagulation therapy during cardiac catheterization.
Theresa Ann Madison had hyperlipidemia, a condition that makes it difficult for blood to flow through arteries, and Type II diabetes. These conditions increased her risk factors for heart disease and stroke. On December 6, 2022, she went to the emergency room at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital complaining of severe chest pains, pain in her left arm, shortness of breath, and headache.
Following testing, the medical team performed a coronary angiogram, a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a catheter to examine the heart for blockages. They also placed a coronary stent (a small, expandable metal mesh tube inserted into a coronary artery to keep it open). Ms. Madison complained of severe pain during and after the procedure. Less than an hour later, she suffered cardiac arrest and died.
The complaint alleges Ms. Madison’s surgical team negligently failed to timely and appropriately administer antiplatelet therapy during the procedure, causing her cardiac arrest and death. It seeks compensation for her medical expenses, pain and suffering, burial expenses, and other damages, as well as compensation for her family’s loss of her companionship, services, and society.
