Medical Malpractice – Wrongful Death Due to Failure To Diagnose Aortic Aneurysm – Davy v. Oakwood Healthcare
Sommers Schwartz attorney Andy Dragovic filed a medical malpractice lawsuit on behalf of the family of a 64-year-old man who died as a result of a hospital’s failure to diagnose his aortic aneurysm.
Lonzaree Davy was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Oakwood Hospital Medical Center, complaining of severe, sudden-onset chest pain and shortness of breath. Although an X-ray was taken, the radiologists who interpreted the results failed to identify abnormalities indicative of an aortic dissection or aneurysm.
As a result, Mr. Davy’s treating physicians did not order additional testing but admitted him for observation. When a computed tomography angiography (CTA) was performed 14 hours after the initial X-ray, it showed extensive and active aortic dissection. Mr. Davy became unresponsive after the procedure; despite CPR and surgical intervention, he passed away.
The complaint filed by Mr. Davy’s representative alleges the radiologists and medical team at Oakwood Healthcare negligently failed to timely diagnose his aortic aneurysm and provide appropriate care, leading to his death. It seeks compensation for Mr. Davy’s medical expenses, pain and suffering, burial expenses, and other damages, as well as his family’s loss of the companionship, society, services, and income he provided.
