Radiology Malpractice – Failure to Properly Interpret CT Scan: Stokes v. Swofford, et al.

Sommers Schwartz attorney Kenneth Watkins filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the estate of a 24-year-old married woman who died after suffering acute obstructive hydrocephalus. According to the complaint, after the decedent presented to the emergency room complaining of severe headaches, she suffered a partial seizure and underwent a CT scan. The plaintiff claims that the defendant neuroradiologist committed professional negligence by failing to interpret the CT scan for a diagnosis of hydrocephalus, and failing to urgently communicate the CT scan results to the ordering physician and advise the ER physician of the need for immediate neurological surgery. The medical malpractice action is currently pending in Oakland County, Michigan Circuit Court.
