On May 22, 2017, Sommers Schwartz attorney Michelle Trent filed a premises liability lawsuit against Wal-Mart alleging the negligence of its Canton, Michigan store. According to the complaint, dripping water from an overhead air conditioning unit accumulated into a puddle on the store floor. The 50-year-old-plaintiff slipped and fell while walking on the puddle, resulting in injury to her wrist, toe, and lower back. No “Wet Floor” sign or other warning had been posted, and when the plaintiff immediately reported the incident to Customer Service, she was informed that the water had been on the floor for some time and an employee had been asked to clean it up, evidence that the store was on notice of the dangerous condition. The negligence lawsuit is currently pending in Wayne County, Michigan Circuit Court.
