On February 7, 2017, Sommers Schwartz attorney Matthew Turner filed a wrongful death action on behalf of the estate of a 33-year-old man who died from cardiac arrest. According to the lawsuit, the decedent presented to the hospital on September 5, 2015 complaining of heart issues and symptoms. An endocrinology consultation and tests to determine the patient’s catecholamine level would have led to a differential diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, which could have been treated with a single alpha blocker. Instead, the defendants continued the administration of multiple beta blockers, which overstressed the patient’s heart, sending him into cardiac arrest. The cardiology malpractice suit is pending in Muskegon County, Michigan Circuit Court.
