  • $675,000 Settlement Over Claims of Surgical and Emergency Room Malpractice

Sommers Schwartz attorney Charles Ash secured a $675,000 medical malpractice settlement on behalf of a man who now suffers from bladder injuries that will require him to self-catheterize four to five times each day for the rest of his life. The man sought treatment from the Defendant surgeon for rectal bleeding and underwent outpatient surgery under general anesthesia to remove the two bleeding hemorrhoids.  The lawsuit alleges that during the surgery and recovery, and over the course of several post-operative emergency room visits, the Defendant doctors and nurses failed to properly monitor, assess, and treat the patient’s urinary retention and overdistended bladder, and their prolonged negligence, as well as the Defendant surgeon’s failure to recommend and pursue a more conservative non-surgical alternative to the patient’s underlying complaints resulted in permanent physical and emotional injuries and economic loss.
