Video Transcript: Food Labeling Lawsuits

Food labeling cases are exploding across the country for a variety of reasons.

1. First of all, people care now more than ever as to what it is they’re eating. Food allergies are a big problem. What type of ingredients are in the food is of interest to people. So people just care more than ever before.
2. Second of all, there’s a lot more information available for people to find out actually what’s in a food product. The labeling becomes very important, and it becomes a source of power for consumers. Think about how much information you can get just off of your smartphone now.

The courts have lagged a little bit in terms of catching up with society, but they now are allowing these lawsuits to go forward. And as a class action, it’s a very powerful vehicle to effectuate the change that’s necessary when a food manufacturer puts out a product that’s mislabeled.
