The Oakland County, Michigan Prosecutor’s Office recently charged Farmington Hills urologist Zvi Levran with 17 counts of sexual misconduct. Known in the youth hockey community as “Hockey Doc,” Levran provided medical care and treatment to youth hockey organizations and school hockey teams in Michigan and Minnesota since 2000. According to the criminal allegations, so far all reported instances of sexual assault and abuse thus far occurred in Levran’s home.

An Increasing Number of Criminal Charges

Levran was first arrested after a 19-year-old man visited his residence on October 18, 2022, for a medical examination. The teen told police the doctor sexually assaulted him during the exam. Oakland County prosecutors charged Levran with four counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was freed on a $100,000 bond.

On November 11, 2022, prosecutors authorized ten more charges against Levran after other victims—all linked to hockey leagues in Michigan and Minnesota—stepped forward and investigations uncovered further instances of sexual misconduct. The new charges include one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, and eight counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. Levran’s bond requirement was increased to $1 million; unable to pay the cash or surety, he has been held at the Oakland County jail.

Investigations into the “Hockey Doc’s” Misconduct Across Multiple States

Sommers Schwartz has learned that Levran worked with youth hockey programs in Michigan from 2000 until he left the state in late 2011 to join a medical practice in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was licensed to practice in Georgia, Iowa, and Ohio. While in Minnesota, Levran served as the physician for the Fergus Falls High School hockey team.

In June 2018, Levran returned to Michigan, opened a private practice in West Bloomfield, and later acted as team doctor for the Novi High School, St. Mary’s men’s hockey team, Farmington High School hockey team, and Michigan Seniors.

The Farmington Hills Police Chief told news outlets his department fielded tips about Levran’s abuse from people in Metro Detroit as well as California, Georgia, North Carolina, Minnesota, Arizona, and Canada. Investigators have not revealed the genders and ages of those claiming to have been assaulted.
