Michigan Doctor Oumair Aejaz Arrested on Charges of Secretly Recording Victims at Rochester Swim School and Metro Detroit Hospitals
The Oakland County Sheriff arrested Dr. Oumair Aejaz, 40, on August 8, 2024, after police discovered thousands of videos and photos of nude women, children, and men in his possession. Dr. Aejaz is said to have secretly recorded his unknowing victims for at least the last six years at a Rochester Goldfish Swim School, in Metro Detroit Hospitals, and other Detroit-area locations — an insidious form of sexual abuse and assault.
A board-certified internal medicine physician, Oumair Aejaz appears to have worked as a hospitalist at several Metro Detroit hospitals. Our investigation reveals he may have seen patients at these facilities since 2018:
- Ascension Genesys Hospital, Grand Blanc
- Corewell Health Hospitals (formerly Beaumont Hospital)
- DMC Sinai Grace Hospital, Detroit
- Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Clinton Township
- Providence Hospital, Southfield
- St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Livonia
- Surgeons Choice Medical Center, Southfield
Oumair Aejaz has been charged with producing child sexually abusive activity, capturing an image of an unclothed person, and using a computer to commit a crime, all related to images he allegedly took of young children and women at a Rochester Goldfish Swim School. Investigators believe a camera in a nearby stall recorded victims without their knowledge. The school has sent letters to patrons notifying them of Aejaz’s suspected crimes and potential exposure.
Investigators confiscated six computers, four cellphones, and 15 external storage devices, including one hard drive with 13,000 videos, according to reports from Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard in the Detroit News. During a press conference, Bouchard stated, “This could take as long as six months just to get through what we already have.” He also said Aejaz didn’t limit his clandestine recordings to women or children, and that because Aejaz’s victimization was so broad and his perversion so extensive, it will take investigators months to review the recordings and identify victims.

If you were secretly recorded or otherwise abused by a physician, you can do a number of things to obtain the justice you deserve, including:
Reporting abuse. You have the right to report abuse or neglect from medical professionals. If you do not wish to make a report directly or cannot do so, you can ask an attorney for help. Reports can be made to the organization in charge of the medical professional, such as a hospital; to the Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Agency (LARA); to the state Attorney General’s office or to your local police department.
Legal representation. You have the right to hire an experienced sexual abuse attorney to help you obtain justice and seek compensation. You can research attorneys and choose the lawyer you feel will best assist you and who you are most comfortable with.
Compensation. You have the right to seek compensation for the harm you have experienced. In a civil lawsuit, this compensation is typically provided in the form of money damages, however, other non-economic damages can be obtained – such as policy changes to prevent the abuse from happening to others in the future. Recoverable damages may include medical bills, lost wages, the costs of psychological care, and pain and suffering.
It’s important to speak to a knowledgeable sexual abuse attorney as soon as possible to understand your rights and options. Contact an attorney’s office to schedule a consultation.
Being out in public – whether it’s to visit a doctor’s office, to take swim lessons, or do other tasks – means giving up some of the privacy you enjoy at home. However, it does not mean that you give up all your privacy rights.
MCL 333.20201 lists several rights that patients and medical care residents have regarding their privacy and dignity. These include:
The right to privacy “to the extent feasible” in the treatment setting,
The right to know who is observing or providing care, and
The right to freedom from abuse.
Other rights to privacy and confidentiality are covered in this statute and other laws. There are also rules that govern your expectation of privacy in other public places, such as gym or swimming pool locker rooms. Speak to an attorney to learn more.
If you know or suspect a doctor secretly recorded you, you may feel vulnerable and exposed. You may start to question whether any meeting or conversation you have is safe.
Experienced sexual abuse attorneys understand these fears. They recognize that you’ve been placed in a vulnerable and often frightening position. These lawyers take special care to protect their clients’ identities and information.
When you speak to an attorney, your consultation is confidential. Your attorney will not disclose that you spoke or the contents of your conversation. This confidentiality allows you to share details honestly, which enables your attorney to move forward with a clear understanding of your situation. The lawyer can also continue to protect your identity through “John Doe” and “Jane Doe” filings, if a lawsuit is brought.
Many experienced Michigan sexual abuse attorneys take cases “on contingency.” This means that the attorney only receives a fee if they win your case. If your attorney can’t recover compensation for you, you pay no fees.
Attorneys must put these fee agreements in writing, so you can review them carefully before hiring the lawyer. Ask about an attorney’s fee agreement up front. Read the agreement, and ask any questions you have before you sign it. Experienced attorneys expect their new clients to check the fee agreement and to ask questions, and they’re prepared to answer those questions clearly.
As this shocking development shows, sexual abuse includes incidents where there is no physical contact between the perpetrator and his prey. If you (or a loved one) suspect you were secretly recorded, we can help — with compassion, discretion, and sensitivity.
