  • $300,000 Settlement For Arm Injuries Caused by Hospital Nursing Staff

Sommers Schwartz attorney Matthew Turner secured a $300,000 hospital malpractice settlement for a man who sustained severe trauma to his left forearm. Multiple unsuccessful attempts were made by the defendant hospital’s nursing to place an IV in his left arm. Despite the repeated failures as well as the patient’s complaints of tenderness in the area, the nursing staff continued their efforts to insert the IV tube, took repeated blood draws, and conducted vital sign monitoring on his left arm, and failed to notify the patient’s doctors of his complaints. The lawsuit claimed that the nursing staff’s negligence resulted in the plaintiff’s compartment syndrome requiring anterior and inferior fasciotomy procedures, causing development of extensive scarring and nerve and muscle damage.
