Confidential $425,000 Settlement for Wrongful Death of Unborn Child

$425,000

Sommers Schwartz attorney Matthew Turner secured a confidential wrongful death settlement on behalf of a 28-year-old woman who delivered a stillborn child after failing to be treated for diabetic ketoacidosis during her high-risk pregnancy.

The woman, who had previously undergone a liver transplant, was taking anti-rejection medication and was therefore susceptible to steroid-induced diabetes. During her prenatal care, the woman developed diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition. However, the condition was left untreated and, as a result, her high glucose levels caused the death of her unborn child at approximately 26 weeks gestation.

The plaintiff’s claim was settled for $425,000 before a formal lawsuit was initiated.
