Helping Gleaners Fight Food Insecurity
Sommers Schwartz Serves – that’s how we support the communities where our people live and work.
Gleaners Community Food Bank has established a vital link between available food and those who need it most. Local and national food producers often have surplus products that go to waste for lack of a way to safely and efficiently bring it to market. Gleaners has developed efficient, reliable methods for handling a tremendous volume of donated items, as well as fresh produce it purchases to ensure the people they serve have access to a variety of healthy, nutritious food.
On Friday, October 23, 2011, a team of Sommers Schartz volunteers visited Gleaners to support the organization’s mission to address food insecurity in Metro Detroit. Our thanks to Muskan Ali, Shea Brouster, Leslie Davis, Alexis Fernandez, Ramona Howard, Mary Howard, Alana Karbal, Janice Koehler, Kim Kortes, Tammy O’Boyle, Lissa Racer, Michele Reiley, Chelsea Richardson, Lenore Zakhem, Dan Swanson, Michelle White, Ben Wilensky, and Jay Yasso for giving their time and energy!
