A national class action settlement was approved for purchasers of Bextra and Celebrex totaling $89 million. Sommers Schwartz attorney Jason Thompson was among the plaintiff lawyers who represented three payors from Michigan who were overcharged for the drugs.  Mr. Thompson commented on the case:

“It is important for payors to pursue abuses by pharmaceutical drug companies as part of their overall effort to contain healthcare costs.  Hundreds of millions of dollars are wasted each year paying for drugs that are overpriced, over-marketed, or overprescribed.  This settlement represents a good example of a drug company being held accountable for its greed, and the benefit to proactive healthcare payors who file suit to recover wasted healthcare dollars.”
