Sommers Schwartz attorney Matthew Turner secured a confidential $500,000 settlement for a man who sustained permanent and catastrophic injuries in a trucking accident on an interstate highway.

According to the personal injury complaint, the plaintiff was traveling on the interstate in his car when he was suddenly and without warning struck by the defendant truck driver, who was operating a big-rig truck. The truck driver had lost control of his vehicle and jackknifed, causing his trailer to wing into the center lane and hit the plaintiff’s vehicle.

The lawsuit alleged that the truck driver exceeded the speed limit, failed to keep a safe and proper lookout, exited his lane of travel before ascertaining whether he could do so safely, and failed to yield the right of way.

Because of the defendant’s negligence, the plaintiff suffered several injuries, including trauma to his brain, spine, shoulder, and knee, and several ongoing psychological and emotional issues. The plaintiff also had to undergo intensive medical treatment, surgery, and therapy, and he cannot engage in his normal occupational, social, and recreational activities.
