  • $1 Million Settlement in Defective Manufacturing Equipment Case

Sommers Schwartz attorney Matthew Turner secured a $1 million product liability settlement on behalf of an assembly line worker injured by a cutting machine designed, manufactured, and sold by the Defendant. At the end of a work shift, the Plaintiff was instructed to clear materials from the machine, and was told the machine was off and in a locked position. As she removed the materials, the machine engaged and amputated her right hand. Re-attachment attempts were unsuccessful, and she ultimately underwent an amputation of her arm below the elbow. The lawsuit alleged that the Defendant failed to properly design, produce, and manufacture a reasonably safe product, and was aware of the product’s defect. Because of the Defendant’s negligence, the Plaintiff suffered extreme pain and suffering, sustained a loss of actual wages and earning capacity, and incurred substantial medical and other expenses.
