What are your responsibilities in your current role at Sommers Schwartz?
I am a medical malpractice and personal injury paralegal for attorneys Matt Curtis and Andy Dragovic. My responsibilities include essential tasks throughout the litigation cycle, including preparing notices of intent, affidavits of merit, complaints, initial disclosures, witness lists, discovery requests and responses, trial preparation/documents, conducting new client interviews, and organizing medical records, among other things.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy continuously learning and have gathered quite a bit of knowledge about medicine and the medical field. Working on medical malpractice matters feels like being in both the legal and medical fields. I find it both interesting and challenging to put the cases together. I also enjoy making contact with clients and developing good relationships with them. They go through very difficult times in their lives, and it is rewarding to know we are helping them in some way.
Did you work anywhere before joining Sommers Schwartz? If so, how has that experience helped you here?
Before joining Sommers Schwartz in March of 1994, I worked at Finney & Lewis, P.C. for ten years. There, I learned a lot about the law and litigation, and that experience really helped me when I came here.
What is your proudest accomplishment at Sommers Schwartz?
I think it’s the relationships I develop with our clients and helping them through the legal process.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I enjoy doing lots of exercise, especially yoga, being outdoors, gardening, going to the farmers market, all things Michigan football, the arts, movies, and hanging out with my husband, dog, family, and friends.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Be confident, and don’t sweat the small stuff!
