Recently, a group of Sommers Schwartz volunteers got together to do lunch a little differently than usual—by making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Lots of them.
Under the banner of Sommers Schwartz Serves, the firm’s community involvement program, the team assembled 150 brown-bag lunches destined for some of Detroit’s most vulnerable residents. It was a simple act, but the energy in the room made it anything but ordinary.
The lunches were donated to Another Day Resource Center, a Detroit-based nonprofit that goes directly to people experiencing homelessness each week, distributing food, clothing, blankets, toiletries, and other essential items to those who need them most. There are no appointments, no intake forms, just a consistent, compassionate presence showing up for people on the street. That kind of on-the-ground work is exactly the sort of effort Sommers Schwartz Serves is proud to support.
Check out the photos below—the smiles say it all. Whether you’re spreading peanut butter or spreading awareness, it starts with showing up.
