Sommers Schwartz Serves 2024 – Another Year of Giving Back
Sommers Schwartz Serves is our community outreach initiative, stewarded by a dedicated group of attorneys and professionals who identify and organize hands-on volunteering activities, fundraising events, and other opportunities for the firm to give back.
Led by attorney Alana Karbal and paralegal Lissa Racer, the Sommers Schwartz Services Committee has had a busy and fulfilling 2024, focusing on nonprofit organizations providing critical services and support to children throughout Metro Detroit.
Love One Another
The Love One Another Foundation (founded by Amanda McCullough, wife of attorney Mickey McCullough) enriches the lives of underserved Southeast Michigan communities through the gift of Easter baskets. In March, Sommers Schwartz contributed to the mission by assembling baskets for the foundation to distribute.
Kids on the Go
Kids On The Go is a pediatric nonprofit that provides physical, occupational, speech, and recreational therapies to special needs children over the summer and during the school year. Attorney Dina Zalewskiserves on the board of directors and rallied the Sommers Schwartz troops to take part in a charity golf outing, a camp cleanup day, and the gala fundraiser.
Cass Community Social Services
Cass Community Social Services offers important assistance throughout the region, from providing thousands of meals each week to its Tiny Homes Detroit and Green Industries initiatives. Sommers Schwartz was a repeat sponsor of CCSS’s annual golf scramble, and several attorneys participated, including former CCSS board member Robert Sickels.
Orchards Children’s Service
Orchard’s Children’s Services has been close to the firm’s heart for years. Its mission is to strengthen the community through quality services such as foster care, adoption, family preservation, and employment and job readiness. To raise funds and collect food items for OCS, Sommers Schwartz hosted its annual Michigan vs. Michigan State tailgate event, complete with a cornhole tournament and Halloween costume contest.
OCS’s Holiday Season of Giving has always been a firm favorite. For many years, Sommers Schwartz “adopted” a family, providing gifts for each member of a designated family. This year, we happily took part in the Toy Drive, donating age-appropriate gifts and gift cards for teens and girls 8 to 12.
Sommers Schwartz is proud to support these and other causes, and we are excited to continue our Sommers Schwartz Serves efforts in 2025!
