Sommers Schwartz Is Proud to Help “Grow Detroit’s Young Talent”
Sommers Schwartz is committed to helping our community, and this summer, we’re pleased to be an Employer Partner with the Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT) organization.
As an Employer Partner, Sommers Schwartz has hired a recent graduate of Chandler Park Academy who will attend Western Michigan University in the fall. Senior Shareholder Dan Swanson will oversee her responsibilities while GDYT will manage selection and placement, payroll, and support services.
GDYT is a citywide summer jobs program that employs young adults between the ages of 14 and 24 for six weeks in July and August. The jobs vary – from accounting to event planning to government services – but the goal remains the same: to provide work-readiness training and on-the-job experience that will prepare each participant to enter the workforce. During her time with Sommers Schwartz, our intern will get a glimpse into the operations of our busy law practice.
In 2015, GDYT arranged employment for 5,600 young Detroiters, and has a goal of 8,000 placements for this summer – and we’re honored to play a part.
