Father Vincent DeLorenzo – Clergy Sexual Abuse Lawyers

In 2019, the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office brought formal charges against Father Vincent DeLorenzo for criminal sexual conduct in the first and third degree. The court documents indicate that Fr.  DeLorenzo repeatedly assaulted a young 5 or 6-year-old boy in 1995 when the child attended school at Holy Redeemer Church in Burton. The allegations involve Fr. DeLorenzo reaching into the boy’s pants and fondling his genitalia on many occasions, and also included Fr. DeLorenzo rubbing the boy in less visible settings.

In 2002, the Diocese of Lansing received a complaint against Fr.  DeLorenzo involving sexual abuse of a minor going back to the mid-80’s. The Bishop of the archdiocese removed Father DeLorenzo from ministry and forwarded the complaint to the Genesee County Prosecutor’s office.

Since 2002, seven more victims have come forward and made complaints about sexual assaults involving Rev. DeLorenzo.

Rev. DeLorenzo had served in six different parishes during his tenure. They include St. Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing, Saint Joseph in Kalamazoo, St. Augustine in Kalamazoo, St. Casimir in Lansing, Saint Pius X in Flint, and St. Robert in Flushing. In January 2002, Fr. DeLorenzo resigned from ministry. In February of 2002, Fr. DeLorenzo admitted to inappropriate sexual contact with an 8-year-old boy in the late 1970’s which continued for five (5) years. At that time, Father was sent for treatment as the DA’s office decided not to prosecute. In February of 2004, another victim came forth alleging abuse at the age of 5 in 1987.  Although the incident was reported to the diocese in November, 2003, local police decided not to prosecute citing insufficient corroborating evidence.

In September of 2019, Michigan’s Attorney General Dana Nessel brought formal charges against Rev. DeLorenzo involving sexual assault of a 5 year old boy in 1987. The matter is currently pending.
