  • Radiology Malpractice – Failure to Recognize Stroke: Kennedy v. Grady Memorial Hospital

Sommers Schwartz attorney Richard Groffsky filed a medical malpractice lawsuit in a Fulton County, Georgia court, alleging the defendant radiologists failed to correctly interpret the CT scan results showing the plaintiff was having a stroke.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff underwent the diagnostic scan at the defendant hospital on June 18, 2018, which revealed she was suffering a middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion. The evolving stroke required immediate recognition and treatment to minimize brain damage and prevent other long-term complications. But the radiologists who reviewed the plaintiff’s CT scan misinterpreted the imaging and failed to recognize she was experiencing an MCA stroke.

Because of the radiologists’ professional negligence in failing to recognize the stroke, the medical team treating the plaintiff was neither advised of the critical findings and nor took the necessary action to prevent the severe brain damage she suffered as a result of the misinterpreted CT scan.

The radiology malpractice lawsuit sought damages to compensate the plaintiff for her pain and suffering, medical expenses, lost wages, and diminished future earning capacity.
