Mr. Curtis is a senior shareholder at Sommers Schwartz, P.C., one of Michigan’s premier law firms. For the past 23 years, Mr. Curtis has been tremendously successful in handling complex personal injury and medical malpractice cases. He was the recipient of the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association Award, which was based upon his successful representation of three families who filed federal tort claims against the National Institute of Health. | Accomplishments: - Mr. Curtis recently received one of the largest medical malpractice verdicts in the State of Michigan in 2008 exceeding $9,000,000. - Matthew Curtis and Richard Groffsky obtained a settlement of $3,045,000 for a client (plaintiff) that presented to the hospital for an elective low-anterior colon resection. The settlement was one of Michigan's largest medical malpractice settlements of 2009. - Matthew Curtis and Richard Groffsky obtained a confidential $7.4 million settlement for an infant born depressed after an emergent delivery. The baby developed brain damage because he was not properly resuscitated in the critical first hour after birth.
