Medical Malpractice Series: Dangerous Consequences of a Radiologist’s Missed, Mistaken, or Delayed Diagnosis (Andy Dragovic)
Andy Dragovic, a trial attorney at Sommers Schwartz, discusses the importance of accurate radiological imaging in diagnosing medical conditions. Radiologists play a crucial role in interpreting diagnostic images such as X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasounds. When these images are misinterpreted, the consequences can be severe, leading to missed or delayed diagnoses and unnecessary treatments. Andy explains how radiologists are held to the same standard of care as other physicians and what happens when that standard isn’t met.

My name is Andy Dragovic. I’m a trial attorney with the law firm of Sommers Schwartz. Doctors often need to see what’s going on inside a patient’s body to understand what’s going wrong. To accomplish that, doctors rely on radiological technology to produce diagnostic images of the body’s internal functioning and organs. Common imaging tools include X-rays, MRI, CT scans, sonograms and ultrasounds.
Radiologists are specially trained doctors who take and process these images, and along with other physicians, they use them to identify and diagnose illnesses, injuries, or other medical conditions.
Often the proper analysis of diagnostic imaging is the turning point in a patient’s course of care with the decisions that follow, determining whether the patient will receive the treatment they need.
But when these images are incorrectly interpreted or analyzed, a diagnosis can be missed, mistaken or delayed. Patient may undergo unnecessary surgeries or courses of treatment to address a condition that doesn’t even exist, and, and those treatments themselves can create additional health problems for a patient. Radiologists have to follow the same standard of care as any other physician. I work closely with medical experts, including highly credentialed radiologists to evaluate and pursue cases of radiological malpractice. If we determine that doctors and radiologists were negligent in their use or interpretation of diagnostic images we will vigorously pursue the maximum amount of compensation available to you.
