Great legal representation depends on great teamwork. While our attorneys are often the face of our firm, their success is made possible by the talented professionals who work behind the scenes. Sarah Sosa is one of those professionals. As a legal assistant in our FLSA department, she has quickly earned our attorneys’ trust through her strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to our clients and team.

What are your responsibilities in your current role at Sommers Schwartz?

I am a legal assistant in the FLSA department, providing support for attorneys Kevin Stoops, Alana Karbal, and Kate Milz. I am in charge of e-filings, managing calendars, phone calls with clients, and assisting with drafting documents and any tasks assigned to me.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I absolutely adore the people I work with in my department. We really are a team. I also enjoy helping those who have been wronged by their employers and seeing the end result of our cases.

Did you work anywhere before joining Sommers Schwartz? If so, how has that experience helped you here?

Yes. In my 25-plus years of being a legal assistant, I had a few stops at other firms prior to Sommers Schwartz. All of my past experience has helped develop me into a capable and reliable legal assistant. My past experience has opened my eyes to the wonderful firm I am blessed to be a part of every day. Not every firm acknowledges the hard work of its staff and shows appreciation for it. I have learned at Sommers Schwartz that this is something they pride themselves on.

What is your proudest accomplishment at Sommers Schwartz?

I cannot nail down one specific accomplishment since I have only been here for two years. However, I am proud of the relationships I have built with my attorneys and the trust they put in me, knowing my work ethic and abilities. In terms of cases, working on a recent matter that resulted in a large settlement for our client was a highlight so far.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy hanging out with my 14-year-old and 11-year-old. I love to read. I am a big Dateline fanatic. I love to walk nature trails and explore the beautiful state we live in. I’ve recently started helping those in recovery, and it’s been satisfying to see how I’ve been truly able to help just by the simple task of listening. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and family.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Take life a day at a time. You will get to where you are meant to be when you are meant to get there. Trust the process, it will pay off in the end!
