For more than 40 years, Sommers Schwartz has fought for justice on behalf of a diverse client base. The law is our stock in trade, and fighting for those whose rights have been violated is our only job. In the courtroom and in the community, we have stood against injustice, hatred, racism, and oppression in all forms.
As Americans, colleagues, coworkers, neighbors, and friends, we have a moral obligation to speak up for the oppressed, mistreated, and abused. Like so many Americans, we are outraged by the senseless murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and others who have been victims of racial injustice. We condemn these acts of hate and violence that threaten the fabric of our society.
Voices advocating constructive change must be protected and heard, not silenced. We voice our support for peaceful protest that shines a light on the dark inequities in our society. And we stand against looting, violence of any sort, and any counterproductive acts that deepen the pain and sadness that permeate our community at this moment in history.
In recent months, keeping safe meant social distancing to reduce the spread of the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus. As individuals and families, we drastically changed our way of living to avoid illness and promote health and wellness for our country. Recent events make clear that keeping safe also means striving to ensure everyone in every community in our state and nation are treated fairly, are treated with dignity, and are given every opportunity to achieve their true potential.
Whether the threat we face is disease or racism or poverty, the stakes are no different, and the wisdom of our responses to these threats is no less vital to our collective welfare. Soon, this November, we will each have the right to cast our support for candidates, national and local, whom we believe are fully committed to making the American experience safer, more just, and fair for all Americans.
With hard work and determination, all of us at Sommers Schwartz can see better days ahead for all citizens.
