We are proud to announce Daniel Swanson has received the 2021 Distinguished Service Award from the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor & Employment Law Section

The prestigious award recognizes an attorney who, for 20 years or more, has 

  • Made major contributions to the practice of labor and employment law 
  • Reflected the highest ethical principles, including principles of civility and professionalism Advanced the development of labor and employment law 
  • Demonstrated a longstanding commitment to excellence 
  • Earned the respect of constituents in Michigan’s labor and employment law community

For more than four decades, Dan has devoted his practice to representing clients in workplace disputes and employment transactions, and is one of very few attorneys in the field to counsel both employees and employers. 

The Distinguished Service Award is the latest in a long list of accolades Dan has earned in the practice of law. For multiple years, he has appeared among Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Plaintiff Employment Lawyers, the Best Lawyers in America, DBusiness Top Lawyers, and Michigan Super Lawyers. In 2019, the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel bestowed its “Respected Advocate Award” on Dan, and in 2014, Michigan Lawyers Weekly included him in its annual class of “Leaders in the Law.” 

Besides the outcomes he has achieved for clients in and out of the courtroom, Dan has given back to the profession and the community in various ways. He is the former chair of the State Bar Labor & Employment Law sections of the State Bar of Michigan and the Oakland County Bar Association and a former board member of the American Constitution Society, the Michigan Association for Justice. He is also a former member and chair of Cass Community Social Services’ board of directors.
