Matthew Turner Selected to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s 2022 Class of “Leaders in the Law”
Sommers Schwartz proudly announces that Michigan Lawyers Weekly has named senior shareholder Matthew Turner to its annual list of “Leaders in the Law.” Matt and the other honorees will be formally recognized at an awards luncheon on December 2, 2022.
Each year, Michigan Lawyers Weekly spotlights lawyers who have obtained significant accomplishments or achievements in the practice, demonstrated leadership in improving Michigan’s justice system, and seek to improve the legal community and their communities at large.
It’s been more than 30 years since Matt won his first trial. Over the past three decades, he has secured tens of millions of dollars in compensation for individuals and families harmed physically, mentally, and financially by others. He has tallied a near-constant string of victories, even as the pandemic pushed traditional litigation out of the courtroom and onto the internet.
Matt’s winning record demonstrates the depth and breadth of his practice, with impressive personal injury verdicts and settlements involving complex medical malpractice, birth trauma, wrongful death, and car crash, truck accident, and motorcycle injuries. He’s also become a nationally known class action litigator, helping large groups of hourly workers recover unpaid wages and overtime from employers that unlawfully withheld their hard-earned pay.
Matt’s activities in and outside the courtroom have garnered respect from his peers. He sits on the executive board of the Michigan Association for Justice and the State Bar of Michigan’s Judicial Qualifications Committee, and he is a frequent speaker and presenter on related topics. He has appeared repeatedly on the lists of Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers, Leading Lawyers, and DBusiness Magazine’s Top Lawyers. Two prestigious, invite-only groups – the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Litigation Counsel of America – inducted Matt as a fellow.
Over his extensive career, Matt has delivered justice to those who might not have otherwise found compensation. But it’s his hard work, endless drive to be the best advocate for clients, and aspiration to have a reputation among his peers for being honest and ethical that truly encompasses what it means to be a Leader in the Law.
