$500,000 Settlement for Husband’s Wrongful Death and Wife’s Serious Injuries in Criminally Negligent Motorcycle Accident

$500,000

Sommers Schwartz attorney Matt Curtis obtained a pre-suit personal injury and wrongful death settlement on behalf of a husband and wife who were knocked from their motorcycle due to the defendant-motorist’s criminal negligence.

At the time of the accident, the 64-year-old plaintiff-husband was operating his motorcycle while his plaintiff-wife rode as a passenger. The defendant-driver ran a stop sign, causing a deadly collision. The husband was killed, and the wife sustained serious injuries to her leg. Although the defendant immediately fled the scene, a nearby doorbell camera recorded the accident, and police later found and arrested him. He was criminally charged with driving under the influence, among other offenses.

As the longtime owner of a local bar, the plaintiff-husband was a beloved member of his community. The $500,000 settlement exhausted all insurance monies and included $250,000 in wrongful death damages for the estate of the deceased husband and $250,000 for the wife’s injuries in the motorcycle accident.
