Multimillion-Dollar Settlement for Case Involving Medication Overdose Causing Child’s Permanent Brain Damage

Sommers Schwartz attorney Richard Groffsky obtained a substantial medical malpractice settlement on behalf of a young child who suffered catastrophic and permanent injuries due to a medication error.

According to the complaint, the child was being treated at the defendant hospital for cardiac related issues and was given a drug to address same.  The dosage given was dangerously excessive for a child of that age and condition, causing multiple seizures and severe hypotension, which resulted in ischemia and permanent brain damage.

Because of the medication dosage error and the subsequent brain damage, the child suffers from mental and motor deficits, developmental delays, and will require additional therapy, care, treatment, education, and training for life.
