Orchards Family Services has been part of the Sommers Schwartz story for a long time, and sponsoring a family for the holidays is one of our most meaningful annual traditions. Once again, our Sommers Schwartz Serves committee and a dedicated group of volunteers came through.

For more than 65 years, Orchards has worked to improve the lives of children and families across our region. In addition to its adoption, foster care, and family preservation programs, the organization provides specialized care and educational and recreational services to kids in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb counties.

Each holiday season, Orchards invites groups and individuals to brighten the holidays for Metro Detroit families in need. Through our Sommers Schwartz Serves program, attorneys and staff came together to collect gifts and other items for an area family, continuing a tradition the firm has carried on for years.

The connection between Sommers Schwartz and Orchards runs deep. The late Steve Schwartz, a longtime colleague and friend who passed away in April 2016, served as president and chairman of the board at Orchards. Each year we participate, we do so in his memory.

But what makes it all worthwhile is summed up in the letter we received from the family’s mother…
