Who Was Dr. Michael Wilmington?

Dr. Michael Wilmington was a longtime pediatrician in the Vancouver, Washington area. He treated children and families for nearly four decades. Reports link his work to multiple health systems over the years, including Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center at 2211 NE 139 St Vancouver, WA 98686. He was also affiliated with Kaiser Permanente Sunnyside Medical Center, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Peacehealth Southwest Medical Center, and Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.

Parents trusted him. Kids were sent to him for care and guidance. That trust matters. When a doctor violates it, the damage runs deep.

What Are Dr. Michael Wilmington’s Abuse Survivors Alleging?

We have already talked with many survivors of Dr. Wilmington’s abuse. Survivors have reported sexual abuse during medical interactions, as well as at his home. Some accounts reference:

  • Naked sleepovers at his home;
  • Being shown pornographic images;
  • Photographs being taken of intimate body parts of children;
  • Recommendations made for sexually explicit books for children;
  • Examinations done that went far afield from the purpose of the visit or for any medically necessary purpose;

The details are disturbing and consistent with grooming and boundary violations.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant in late April 2026 in connection with child sex abuse allegations. Within days, Dr. Wilmington died by apparent suicide after a felony arrest warrant was issued. Survivors have now begun filing civil lawsuits. They are seeking accountability from the institutions that hired him, enabled him, and failed to stop his abuse.

If you are reading this and feeling that punch-in-the-gut recognition, pause and breathe. Your memories matter. Your instincts matter. You get to define what happened to you or your child.  And you get to choose what to do next by speaking with our experienced team of sexual abuse lawyers.

How Institutions May Be Held Accountable

When a physician harms patients, the law looks beyond the individual. Hospitals, medical groups, and clinics have a duty to carefully hire, supervise clinicians, investigate concerns, and protect patients. If an institution ignored red flags, failed to act on reports, or allowed risky access to children, that institution can face liability in a civil case.

Your Options If You Were Harmed by Dr. Wilmington

You have options as a sexual abuse survivor. Here are the paths survivors are taking right now:

  • Report to law enforcement. If you want to make a criminal report, you can. Even with Dr. Wilmington’s death, police can still collect evidence and coordinate with prosecutors. Criminal investigations can support civil claims. We can help you make that connection.
  • Ask about trauma-informed support. This process is heavy. You deserve a legal team that coordinates with your mental health care, keeps your information private, and shields you from re-traumatization wherever possible.
  • Seek confidential legal help. Many survivors prefer to talk first, off the record, without making any public move. That conversation is protected by the attorney-client privilege. You set the pace while our team of sexual harm attorneys works out the details of your particular case.
  • File a civil lawsuit. A civil case seeks money damages and institutional accountability. It also opens the door to discovery, allowing us to obtain documents and take sworn testimony from those responsible for oversight.  We file these cases as Jane Does or John Does so our clients’ privacy is protected, if desired.

Worried about time limits? Every case has deadlines, but the rules for child sexual abuse can be different. In many situations, survivors who were exploited as children have an extended time to sue. Do not assume you are out of time. Let us assess that for you right away.

What We Do for Survivors

Here is how my team works on cases like this:

  • We listen. First, we hear your story. No pressure. No judgment. No expectations.
  • We investigate. We secure medical records. We identify every institution that touched his practice. We collaborate with other survivor attorneys when it helps your case.
  • We protect your privacy. We use protective orders and confidential filings when appropriate. We prepare you for each step so nothing blindsides you.
  • We build leverage. Strong cases settle when defendants realize a jury will hear the truth. This is often referred to as “settling outside court.” We prepare every case as if it will go to trial.

You do not owe anyone a public story. But speaking with legal counsel can secure your rights. We understand that evidence fades. People forget. Records get lost. We lock down proof early so that you can get clarity sooner. Even if you decide not to file, you will know where you stand and what options are available to you.

Your voice may also protect others. Institutions only change when survivors refuse to carry the burden in silence. Your courage forces transparency. It creates reforms. It sets a new standard for safety.

What to Expect When You Call

  • A private consultation with a member of my team or me
  • A clear, plain-language explanation of your legal options
  • A plan that respects your story and your goals
  • No fees unless we recover compensation for you

You do not need every memory lined up or every record in hand. Start with what you have. We will take it from there.
