Sommers Schwartz is pleased to announce that Lisa Esser-Weidenfeller was named a Michigan Lawyers Weekly “Up & Coming Lawyer.” The publication held an award luncheon on December 17th to celebrate Lisa and the other members of the 2015 class.
According to the selection criteria, the honor is awarded to attorneys “who are establishing a name for themselves, go above and beyond, and display the ambition, drive, determination and accomplishments that set them apart among their peers — in their first 10 years in practice.”
A fierce and dedicated advocate, Lisa is a champion for the injured and is one of a distinguished group of personal injury and medical malpractice attorneys who has obtained some of the largest verdicts and settlements in Michigan. For example, in 2010 — just three years into her legal career — she achieved one of Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s largest verdicts for that year: $1.215 million in the case of an elderly woman who was severely burned in an intensive care unit accident. She has also achieved a $1.4 million settlement for a boy who suffered brain damage after an allergy injection, and a $1 million settlement for a death due to an untreated infection that resulted in septic shock. Right now, Lisa is in the midst of yet another record-breaking case, the first-ever medical malpractice class action lawsuit in Michigan history.
In addition to her outstanding achievements in the courtroom, Lisa is a leader at her law firm and is involved in many professional organizations including the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan (Oakland Region), the Oakland County Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Michigan Association for Justice, and the American Bar Association. She is also active in the State Bar of Michigan’s Negligence Law Section and the Young Lawyers Section, and currently represents District 1 on the State Bar of Michigan’s Character & Fitness Committee.
Since beginning her legal career in 2007, Lisa’s outstanding trial skills have earned her several honors. She has been named to the “Top 40 Under 40” by the National Trial Lawyers since 2012 and has been tapped as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers each year since 2011.
