We are pleased to announce that Michigan Lawyers Weekly selected senior shareholder Judith Susskind to the 2019 class of “Women in the Law.” She formally received the honor at an awards luncheon at the Detroit Marriott in Troy on September 5, 2019.

According to Michigan Lawyers Weekly, the honor is bestowed upon attorneys who are committed to excellence in the practice of law, are inspiring and accomplished leaders in the profession, seek improvements to the legal community and their communities at large, show leadership in improving the justice system in Michigan, and contribute significant time and effort to volunteerism or pro bono activities.”

Judy has been blazing legal trails for more than 30 years and has handled hundreds, possibly thousands, of medical malpractice matters during her career. Several have been precedent-setting appellate decisions, and she finds it rewarding to help people who face challenging, sometimes unimaginable situations. She is especially proud when she can obtain compensation for a severely injured client, compensation that can improve the person’s life by ensuring access to necessary care, treatment, and accommodations.

Judy is quite active in the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ), has been on the MAJ executive board since 2001 and was MAJ president from 2008-2009. She also serves on MAJ’s Amicus Committee, has co-moderated MAJ’s annual medical-malpractice seminar for the past 15 years, and has spoken at numerous other MAJ seminars. Judy is a Fellow of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), a membership which is reserved for lawyers with extensive experience, demonstrated and extraordinary skill, and the highest civility and integrity. In 2018, Judy was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, another elite invitation-only organization.

The Michigan legal community is extremely fortunate to have Judy among its ranks. Anyone who knows or who has worked with her (even on the opposite side) will attest to her stellar trial skills, civility, and character. She is an exemplary lawyer, colleague, mentor, and friend.

Congratulations, Judy, on this well-deserved honor!
