In 2022, the Attorney General included Father Mark McQueston, an active priest and senior member of the Diocese of Marquette, on its list of credibly accused sexual offender clergy members. Father McQueston’s alleged abuses date back to the 1980s—when he was still in seminary—and include the following misconduct:

  • Having choir boys sleep overnight in the rectory with him.
  • Writing “love letters” to young boys.
  • Disrobing and exposing himself in front of minors.

The Diocese of Marquette investigated these claims and other allegations internally. However, investigators found witness testimony vague and could not find any corroborating evidence to support the claims against Father McQueston.

Although Father McQueston’s actions were inappropriate, the diocese lacked substantive evidence to hold him accountable for any crimes. To date, they fully support his continued leadership in the church.
