Michigan Keratin Hair Product Mislabeling Lawyer
Manufacturers of hair care lines containing keratin represent that their products can rebuild, reconstruct, or repair damaged hair from inside and out. In fact, these products may not have any restorative qualities – and might not contain any keratin at all.
What Is Keratin?
Keratin is a protein that naturally exists in our hair. For years, salons have offered professional treatments such as the Brazilian Blowout to people, mostly women, who want to make their hair straighter, smoother, sleeker, and easier to style. In addition to keratin, these treatments require application of dangerous formaldehyde, which prompted the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration to issue a hazard alert concerning the risks posed to stylists and their customers.

Seeking to capitalize on the popularity of salon treatments, hair care product manufacturers began marketing keratin shampoos, conditioners, oils, and sprays that claimed to repair, restore, and strengthen damaged hair as well as prevent further damage.

Product Mislabeling & False Advertising
Contrary to manufacturers’ claims, laboratory tests on a number of consumer hair care products promoted for their restorative keratin qualities have shown that they are ineffective – or more startling – contain trace levels of the protein or no keratin whatsoever.
As a result, consumers are being lured by inaccurate labels and false advertising to waste their money on products that don’t perform as warranted.
